More than a textbook or worksheet…

The heart of FFCS is our teachers… Luke 6:40 tells us that students become like the teachers who train them.

We seek those called to the ministry of teaching, who demonstrate gifting, love students, and who are committed to speaking Biblical truth to every student while modeling a life of commitment to the God of the Bible. In essence, teachers are “living curriculum.”

When you factor in that every subject at Firm Foundation Christian School is taught from a biblical worldview, our commitment to your child’s academic and spiritual growth become visible.

In terms of actual curriculum, the core curriculum includes reading, grammar, math, science, social studies, spelling, and Bible. Other subjects included in the students’ weekly schedules are art, computer, music, physical education and, for 5th graders, band.

The reading program is designed to enable students to learn how to read, as well as to develop critical thinking skills.  The Bob Jones University (BJU) program is used to accomplish the mechanical portion of our reading instruction.  The elementary mathematics program is enhanced by the use of the Abeka Math program.  Math concepts are developed, reviewed and practiced over time.  Students move from the concrete to the pictorial to the abstract as they advance from grade to grade. IXL is a personalized learning program that adapts to student skills as they learn new concepts. It helps them build mastery at their own pace and challenges students to tackle problems with real life applications.

Students also participate in MAP Testing three times a year to assess their growth over time. A “Family Report” is sent home electronically so that you can stay abreast of how your child is doing and areas for continued improvement.

“Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.” Psalm 95:1

Music class is provided two days a week. Throughout the year students learn music theory, including solfege and note recognition, through playing fun games with giant flashcards. They learn about proper singing techniques, like good posture and vocal warm-ups.

They sing a variety of songs: scripture-based, patriotic, traditional, and fun! Students learn about rhythm through reading, speaking, playing, writing rhythmic notation, and movement. Students in grades three and four learn to play the flutophone and work through a music theory workbook from Abeka. Students also learn to play hand chimes.

More than just academics…

Co-Curricular Activities

Elementary students at FFCS experience a wide range of activities designed to foster their emerging talents and skills. Elementary students participate in:

  • Jog-A-Thon
  • STEAM Night
  • Operation Christmas Child
  • Spirit Week
  • ACSI Spelling Bee
  • Dr. Seuss Day/Read-A-Thon
  • Christmas and Spring musical programs
  • ACSI Speech Meet

For those who love sports, students can participate in Fall and Spring soccer. In addition, we anticipate bringing back “Hot Shots Basketball” in the coming school year. Parents are an essential component to the success of this program as chaperones and coaches. It’s a great way to be involved in an activity your child loves.

Academic Support

Some students may qualify for additional resources and support through the Achievement Center. This program is designed to help improve reading and math through specialized individual or small group instruction. An additional fee may apply.
